Susannah Farr

CEO

Susannah Farr was born and raised in South Africa. She is a mother of three children and married to Anthony Farr.

Susannah is a visionary social entrepreneur who holds a business management qualification and an MPhil degree from the University of Stellenbosch. Susannah’s active involvement in youth behaviour-change and skills-access led her to pioneering the gold Youth Development Agency (gold-youth) in 2004 of which she is CEO. In striving to build gold’s sustainable scalability, Susannah established gold-enterprises in 2011, a for profit company, 100% owned by gold-youth.

As an Ashoka fellow, Susannah is steadfastly committed to change and to finding elusive industry resolutions for addressing the current debilitating youth-education and unemployment crisis amongst the most vulnerable.

Susannah has served to inform policy for South’s Africa’s education system and sits on the standards generating body for Peer Education in South Africa. She has been involved in youth development for the past 21 years and is actively committed to building bridges across the cultural and socio-economic gaps and learning inequalities that are so prevalent in Southern Africa.

Michelle Fitzpatrick

Resource Development Manager

BA Degree in Psychology and Theology from the University of Stellenbosch. She initially worked for one of gold-youth’s Implementing Organisations for 4 years and joined the gold Group in 2008 in the Research and Development capacity. She has since been involved with gold for the past 8 years in various capacities..

Her extensive experience as a trainer and project manager allows her to ensure that gold-enterprises delivers it’s best for its clients. She is has also completed both her assessors and moderators training and is registered with the ETDP SETA for both against the Accredited Peer Education Unit Standards.

Luyanda Mbi

Business Development Administrator

Luyanda is the administrator for gold-enterprises and has been part of the team since 2013. Luyanda focuses on communication and administration support in marketing and sales, finances, training and client relationship management.

Luyanda is a gold graduate and was selected as a youth opinion leader when she was a teenager and completed the full three year gold youth skills training and mentoring pilot programme. Luyanda initially joined gold-youth in research and development after completing a learnership in youth peer education facilitation with a gold implementing partner. She has spent the last decade in a variety of coordination roles within gold and a year with Media 24 as Syndications Co-ordinator.

Through gold, Luyanda became part of a youth activism programme called Activate. Luyanda is passionate about seeing African youth, women and people come into their full potential. Luyanda is currently completing a qualification in business management.

Msizi Cele

Trainer & Consultant

Msizi Cele is married to Gaynore Cele and they have three sons.

Msizi was the previous Business Support Manager for gold-enterprises and is now a trainer and consultant for key pieces of work. Msizi joined gold-enterprises in 2012 fueled by his passion to support in the creation of profitable businesses that uplift the poor and address the socio-economic divide in South Africa and Southern Africa.

Msizi has an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town. In addition Msizi holds a Bachelor of Science with majors in Chemistry and has 15 years of management experience in various business sectors, bringing a wealth of wisdom to the social entrepreneurship space.

Msizi is the co-founder of Public Square Foundation, an organisation that facilitates dialogue with decision makers, opinion leaders and mobilises people for nation building. He also serves on the board of the Restitution Foundation and the Justice Alliance of South Africa.

Wedzerai Chiyoka

Trainer & Consultant

Wedzerai is a Community Development consultant with extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector in East- and Southern Africa. She has proven NGO capacity-building competence and her achievements include programme management in national, regional, and international development agencies, such as Pact, VSO, AGRI-IQ and the FACT Consortium.
Furthermore, since 2008, Wedzerai has been engaged in technical assistance and advisory capacities, working as an independent development consultant for several agencies. These include GIZ, IOM, government ministries, HIV & AIDS Networks and faith-based organizations.
Her work focuses on Youth Development, Gender, Orphans and Vulnerable Children, and Migration and Health. Wedzerai is also a keen social researcher and trainer.

Desmilene Minyi

Trainer & Consultant

In her role as nurse, Desmilene saw an opportunity to support colleagues in the struggle for justice, and attained a Certificate in Labour Law and Management, as well as a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. After gaining OHS experience, she entered the non-governmental sector, serving for seven years as a provincial educator and four years as labour coordinator.

Desmilene trained employees in matters of policy management and ethical codes, sexual harassment and discrimination, worked as a social and ethical auditor in the fields of labour and Occupational Health and Safety, and has a passion for leadership, gender and democracy, feminism, politics of the poor and women, the class struggle, transformative justice, reconciliation and labour law.

Dean Egypt

Trainer & Consultant

Before matriculating in 2004, John Dean was a gold Facilitator Intern. He studied Theology for two years, which allowed him to pursue his interest in youth work and shaped his career direction. John Dean then gained a national diploma and certificate in Sport Management and Administration, in the hope of using the medium of sport to teach leadership and life skills to young people.

Returning to gold-youth, John Dean took on the role of Provincial Manager and later served as Connections Co-ordinator and Training and Support Manager. He is an experienced trainer of trainers, specialising in work readiness skills, self-development, project implementation and entrepreneurship.
